Must Have for every kitchen August 23, 2010 YoDaddy Very well made with a great cured finish. I love mine about as much as I love pot roast! I have even been using it for high-temp searing of indoor steaks - the high sides keep down the splatter there is always a killer fond with cast iron cookware for making pan sauces.
Love the "Lodge"! August 10, 2010 A. Ivery Hubby was really excited that I found this on Amazon. Other places were wanting much more in price for this Dutch Oven. He was even happier when it arrived 3 days early! Just in time for camping!
7 Quart DO- Rough casting & tacky / soft preseasoning July 27, 2010 Claybuster (Eastern L.I.) Cannot hold a candle to the old Griswolds and Wagners. Interior requires a lot of aftermarket work to smooth interior surfaces. Interior of cover is awkward to dry. Bail handle is not as nicely made as Griswold's. But it seems to be the last of a dying breed of American products and the largest CI DO that will fit on my stovetop.
Great all Arounder July 13, 2010 flashalan This 5 quart is a perfect size for most dishes. From a big pot of stew to a loaf of bread.
Breads, stews, roasts all cook deliciously and in a very short time.
Whole roasting chickens fit fine and come out juicy and tender yum yum.
The size fits in and out of my electric oven with ease.
I also cook with it on my gas grill. Cleanup is usually just a rinse out.
This is my fifth piece of cast iron and should complete my set for awhile.
The bail handle is very useful for removing and carrying a full pot with ease.
If you are thinking about a great all around D/O this one is highly recommended.
My next dish is jambalaya and I know it will be awesome
The price is unbelievable with free shipping from AMAZON
It's a Lodge July 12, 2010 Bunk House Cook Knew what I wanted and found the exact thing on Amazon. Lodge cast iron is top of the line and it performs exactly as I wanted and expected. Heavy--but that's what cast iron is all about. Cooks great and will last 100 years. I have my Great Grandmomther's 100+ year old cast iron griddle and I know this Lodge dutch oven will get passed down our family line also. Quality never goes out of style.
